LYNWOOD SPECIALISED SOCCER ACADEMY

Endorsed through Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) by the Department of Education, our Specialised Soccer Academy has been operating since 2004.  The Academy is designed to provide a unique opportunity for talented football players (boys and girls aged 13-18 years of age), to develop their individual skills and knowledge of the game at the highest level, in a setting that promotes leadership and civic responsibilities.

At Lynwood Senior High School, students within our Soccer Specialist Academy will be provided opportunities to “Strive for Excellence” from their entry in Year 8 through until Year 12.  During their 5 years, opportunities will arise for students to excel in areas of playing at an elite level, coaching, refereeing and organising events.  The course will also stream into upper school WACE units and VET Courses specific to Football for TAFE and University placements.

Students will be provided opportunities to;

  • Be engaged in the PE Curriculum; including knowledge and understanding, interpersonal and self management skills.
  • Develop their skills and technique
  • Develop their components of fitness, specific to Football Conditioning
  • Develop their mental components in football
  • Improve their tactical awareness of the game, both in attack and defence
  • Complete WACE and or VET Courses
  • Participate in classes to support optimum learning environment, eg gender/ability/race
  • Participate in competition, inter/intra school, regionally, state and internationally
  • Develop their skills as a coach, complete an approved FFA course
  • Develop their skills as a referee, compete an approved FFA course’
  • Organise events such as Primary school tournaments
  • Analyse their own performance using analysis software
  • Analyse their team performance using analysis software
  • Display values as a role model within and outside the school as displayed by actions and words
  • Assist and manage in situations as presented in football
  • Interact within the wider community

The program:
The program encompasses all aspects of soccer and aims to provide opportunities for students on and off the field.  The program includes:

  • 4 hours of practical coaching time per week based on the National Curriculum set out by the Football Federation Australia (FFA).  This time does not impact on the learning program of the students.  The aim of these sessions is to develop technique and insight into the game.
  • 1 hour of tactical, psychological and physiological theory information regarding professional football players.
  • Participation in the Champions Schools Glory Cup and Zone Carnival tournaments
  • The program is implemented with a full academic curriculum, with the opportunities to gain University Entrance, Polytechnic West entry or complete Certificate II in Sport and Recreation
  • Opportunity to compete overseas with our tours of England and Singapore
  • Attainment of the Grassroots and Junior Coaching Licences through Football West
  • Attainment of the Level 5 Referee licence through Football West
  • Links to National Training Centre (NTC), State Levels and local Club Competition
  • Event management in Carnival Operations.

Selection Process

To be part of this program, students need to complete and application form and attend selection trials.  Students may be expected to be involved in a number of different selection trials before being accepted. Each applicant will need to meet the standards of behavior, academic performance and soccer ability to be successful. Students are expected to maintain a high level of performance throughout their time in the Academy and within the school.

Course Costs

Students will receive their contributions and charges for the course at the start of each year.  These charges are compulsory. An additional fee for the purchase of a training strip and tracksuit is required. Extra costs will occur for camps and interstate or overseas competitions.
Scholarships are available.

Soccer Academy Parent Committee

We are currently seeking members to represent and promote the Academy with Staff and Students. Some functions would be to represent the Academy at P & C Meetings, fundraising for equipment and excursions and to assist and support the school coaches with activities and events. The committee will be made up of parents who will meet with the Head Coach of the Academy once a month.
All parents are welcome.
